LG has teamed up with Google multiple times (three to be precise) in the past to make the Nexus devices. In 2015, we saw two nexus devices, one of them being made by LG, the Nexus 5X. Now at the ongoing MWC in Barcelona, LG has confirmed that it will not work with Google for the successor of Nexus 5X this year.

A LG spokesperson in conversation with CNET at MWC said that LG is taking a break from the Nexus program to "focus on its own brand". The spokesperson added that the company is "totally happy" with its relationship with Google so far, and also said that Nexus program requires resources that could be used on LG phones.

Apart from the Nexus 5X, LG teamed up with Google for the Nexus 4 in 2012 and Nexus 5 in 2013, both of which were more popular among the Nexus line up. The move comes after LG unveiled the G5 with a innovative modular design at MWC 2016. The G5 comes with a slot below the display that can be removed and replace with a module. Currently there are two modules, LG Cam Plus, which enhances camera capabilities (plus a 1200mAh battery), the second one, LG Hi-Fi Plus with B&O Play for high-definition audio playback.

In addition, the LG spokesperson also revealed plans to restart sales of the second-gen LG Watch Urbane LTE in H2 2016 that was discontinued due to display hardware issue. The spokesperson also mentioned that LG might launch a new smartwatch in H2 2016.

Coming back to the Nexus devices, As per rumor mill, HTC is expected to make the Nexus devices this year.
